Hi, all;

Glad I found this place.

I have just inherited a 60 year old house, which needs to be cleaned up for rental, rather quickly and inexpensively.

To save money, I have decided to do the interior paint myself, at least the bedrooms.

The walls are plaster, and were re-painted about 15 years ago, in an off white.

I want to paint it in a simple white as well. I am a little confused as to the quality of paints. Becuase this is for a rental I don;t want to put a lot on expense into the paint, becuase it is likely that a renter may only stay a year or two, maybe less.

So, I'm at home depot looking at the paints, and the prices vary quite a bit. I'm seeing 23 dollar/gallon for Behr Swiss Coffee, but 16 dollars for a comparable Glidden Flat white. I'm also seeing a 5-gallon drum of Glidden Flat white interior for $49. So, there is quite a price range here.

What would some of you recommend for painting a Rental, inside, in a white or off-white?

Your suggestions please!

Thanks!

When it comes to paint I would recommend going somewhere that specializes in paint. I haven't had much luck with the home improvement store paints and primers but I'm very happy with Sherwin Williams products. I think you'll find their pricing comparable.

Good Luck

White is a good neutral colour.
It will lighten up the house and give it an over all clean feel.
Also it is easy to "patch 'n paint" should you need touch ups later.

Although an off-white is warmer, it may be a pain and run around to get it colour matched and tinted if they discontinue the line.

White will never be discontinued.

For a simple rental property that will sustain a few knocks and bumps between tenants, I would recommend white.

EDIT: I live in Australia so I have no idea of the brand names or quality you mentioned. Cheaper usually means more coats needed to be applied. I'd recommend asking a sales assistant and look at mid price range for longevity.
