Hand selected by master portrait artist Daniel Greene, these vibrant, handmade pastels feature a smooth, creamy texture that makes them a pleasure to use.

Because they are made by hand, not machine, the pigment hardly gets pressed at all. The sticks are rolled lightly, making them very fluent when used — almost like soft charcoal.

The set contains 144 pastels that measure approximately 2-1/8" long × 5/8" diameter (54 mm × 16 mm). Boxed in a handsome wooden carrying case that folds out for easy access, the pastels are protected with foam padding for storage and transport.

The wooden case measures 54" (137 cm) wide when fully opened and 3"H × 18"W × 12"D (8 cm × 46 cm × 30 cm) when closed.

Hard pastels have less pigment, and more binder. They are firmer to work with, but the colors are not as vivid. They are good for making crisp lines and details as they can be sharpened to a point. They are often used for outlining or adding intricate details to work done in other media. Because hard pastels are less vivid, some pastel artists use them for background color. Hard pastels are recommended for preliminary sketching.
