Question about entering 3D animation industry

I'm still in school and was just wondering this along with a few other classmates

Do most non independent companies in 3D animation look for people who are specialized in one specific skill or do they look for people who are pretty good in alot of different subjects and mediums.

Or to put it another way, Should people comming out of college have spent their time working on becoming good at three or four different skills, or mastering just one?
