Does CAT have a future?
rygoody Date: Tuesday, 20.10.2009, 17:09 | Message # 1

I can't find the autodesk page for CAT. I can't find a demo for 2010. Where is it? Is autodesk ending off CAT?

I'm also curious to know, aside from the muscle and dynamic animation generation. Does CAT even offer that much for manually animating bipedal characters over the 2010 3DS max biped? It seems to me like CAT used to be really good cause of the animation layering and NLE capabilities. But both those are integrated into max now and honestly it looks to me like the Max Motion Mixer is a bit more intuitive to use than CAT NLE integration.

But I don't know, I've never used either.

I'm just wondering, is CAT anything to invest any thought into at this point in time? Cause it seems to me like Autodesk has all it's sights on furthering developing biped. In terms of just manual bipedal animation capability, no dynamics, or rig setup, the current Biped is pretty much on par from white paper specs with CAT.

CAT is part of 3dsmax... i don't know if it will be supported for other plattforms in the future.
Maya and Softimage at maximum... but i even would doubt that. If you want to use CAT... buy or at least use 3dsmax. I think it has a future perhaps even more than biped... but i am no expert in this.

Pretty much all your presumptions are wrong

The CAT help documentation, by Autodesk: http://download.autodesk.com/esd/3d...2010/index.html

Intro CAT videos, by Autodesk: http://www.autodesk.com/us/3dsmax/C...vies/index.html

CAT forum: http://area.autodesk.com/forum/auto...ax/3ds-max-cat/

And pretty much every Max presentation recently features CAT, so...
