I read a lot of books on religion, spirituality and philosophy (and travel, and chick lit... go figure???) anyway, as I was saying, I was reading a little book by OSHO called 'Creativity'. Now I know he was a controversial figure, but can we discuss for a minute his suggestion that 'much modern art' (he was speaking during the 70's) was a kind of therapy and should be used as a tool for recovery, 'to get the madness out' and then thrown away. Basically he was saying that art that was confronting and controversial, anything out of the confines of 'pretty' or decorative, was the product of a damaged mind and should be treated as garbage, and perhaps not hung on a wall to be revered and emulated... I would love to hear some intelligent thoughts on this.
