Helllo from Italy, Im here for the month looking at some schools and stuff. Argh, anyway i wrote this long post and then pressed the wrong buttons when I was about the submit it and exitd the tab (damn laptop) I'm kind of discouraged and confused when it comes to the industry. I've become almost indifferent to fellow artist because my hunger for wanting to be creative fuels on, yet I get no feedback and it tells me maybe I'm not cut out for CG. The main thing I want to know here is, it even possible for a medicore self-taught artist to get a job, freelance or a entry level one? I don't know where to start or look. I don't know if anybody will want my services, despite my confidence in using atleast 3ds max and Photoshop. I used to have this hope that I'd get good enough to make some income without needing a degree, but honestly, what is the reality here? What should my portfolio consist of, should I focus on any particular field of 3d, and when/how should I look for work. I'd love to hear from some working artist about their opinions and advice. Should I go to a tradtional art school in italy, get a regular degree, or what? Please help. =[ |

What schools were you looking at in particular? It can be hard getting freelance work, you need to really look and have a decent portfolio to back you. I've heard a few cases of people making it being self taught, but I think a majority of artists go to school for it. From what I've heard its best to have a traditional art background but you don't need to go to school for it. I know lots of kids (16-18) that do bits of freelance work (web/2D/3D) most of the time they barely make any money and they got few jobs and far in between) |
