I guess the title says it all. It seems like this is the worst time to try and break into the industry. As I was completing my reel, I would read articles about studios shutting down or downsizing(making me really nervous. I'm just wondering is it me or do I have a legit concern? I guess its tough in every job sector right now. Gotta keep on trying I guess. Best wishes!

I've heard that a lot of game studios are still doing well, but I was working for a small Arch Viz studio in Phoenix a few months back that had to layoff half the staff. I'm trying to start doing independent work in the same field (since that's where I've got some experience) but the market is pretty poor for anything architectural these days.

It seems to me that there is still a TON of archviz being done these days. But the economic situation is definitely putting "the squeeze" on smaller 3D shops -especially those that are doing primarily residential (even large-scale housing development) projects.

Smaller shops may not have the capitol to weather this downturn -and will be forced to close or to become purchased by larger operations.

Larger archviz studios (and larger 3D shops in general) will probably come out of this downturn looking pretty good.

My advice is to look for work with these larger company's.

There are many shops (even large studios) who are on hiring "freezes" but are still taking on jobs they can't turn around in time. This means there are opportunities for freelancers with the right connections.
